我认为，图书有三种类型。第一种是“销售部门”的书，销售经理比编辑更清楚它的获利能力。这类书通常是非虚构类，符合某个市场需求，内容浅显易懂。

第二种是“附属版权”的书。附属版权经理的职责就是了解平装书出版社有兴趣购买哪些类型的小说，以及在同类书中，哪种情节、情境，哪类侦探、场景已经过时了。

附属版权是伴随着出版而产生的潜在的若干权利。

附属版权包括连载权、大众市场版权、图书俱乐部、外国版权、有声读物版权、电影版权、缩写本版权、精装重印书版权、电子版权和形象使用权。

最后一类是“编辑”的书。编辑凭直觉发现这些书，出于个人偏好和热情而买下版权，然后极力说服销售部门或附属版权部门。
